What has been your favorite place to shoot? This is a tough question for me, because I have shot a lot of different locations and in different states. But I think one of my favorite locations was on the Ferris wheel at the Santa Monica pier here in LA. That was a fun shoot and one of my first attempts to step outside of my "regular" locations. Another location I really like to shoot is just any plain white wall. I love the idea of letting the model and the clothes and the hair and make up speak for itself with nothing to distract you.
What has been your trickiest photo shoot and why? Honestly, I try to keep my concepts and shoots pretty relaxed. So I haven't run into to many tricky shoots. I suppose when I first moved out to LA I had a lot of locations get shot down because they wanted money. And coming from Minneapolis where you can shoot almost anywhere with no issues at all it was kind of a strange culture change for me. But now that I have lived out here for about ten months I am starting to get the hang of it.
What does photography mean to you? I have never really written this down before. So hopefully it makes sense. But to me photography is all about capturing a moment. It’s not about trying to manufacture something as much as it’s about capturing something. And photography for me is about taking the right steps and getting the right team and model and clothes and location to allow for awesome inspired moments to happen for me to hopefully capture them with a camera. And not only that but it is also a good fucking time. I love taking photos.
